Otty and Lotty, discovering the phone has a side each.

Couples apps for iPhone Duo are a different question from couples apps on a normal phone, because the Duo is the first iPhone two people can use at once: open it like a book on the table and each of you has a page. Apple only lets apps built with its newest toolkit fill that inner screen, so most couples apps run in a phone-sized box for now. This guide takes the eight apps from our best couples apps guide and checks each one against the Duo: whether it has a wide layout today, whether it carries Apple’s Duo badge, and what two people can actually do with it open on a table.

Why couples apps for iPhone Duo are a different question

Couples apps for iPhone Duo have a screen that can face two people at once. The Duo pairs a 7.6-inch inner display with a 5.4-inch outer one, runs two apps side by side in Split View, and stands half-open on a table. A question deck, a shared calendar or a cycle view that used to be passed back and forth can now sit between you with a page each.

Whether an app can use that depends on how it was built. Apple sorts apps into three tiers by toolkit: iOS 26 or older runs in a safe box on the inner screen, iOS 27 reaches further, and only the iOS 27.1 toolkit, open for Duo submissions since October 5, fills the display edge to edge. Apps that already had an iPad layout adapt best, because they already know what to do with width. Gadget Hacks explains the tiers in full.

The 8 couples apps on iPhone Duo at a glance

On a phone a couples app is something you hand over. On the Duo it is something you set down between you.

Apps with a wide layout already: Evergreen, Cozi and Gottman Card Decks

Three of the eight ship a real iPad layout in their listings, which means they have already solved the width problem once. Evergreen is the question-and-check-in app with the strongest starting position, and a daily question on a screen that faces both of you is the format the Duo was built for. Cozi is the household calendar, and a month view with room on the inner screen is the whole point of a bigger phone. Gottman Card Decks is free, and a card deck half-open on a table is exactly how the Gottman decks were used before they were an app.

An iPad layout is a clue, not the badge. Each of the three still needs a build on the 27.1 toolkit to fill the inner screen, so check the badge column above before you assume.

Phone-only layouts for now: Paired, Between, Cupla and Honeydue

Paired, Between, Cupla and Honeydue show phone screenshots only, so until each ships a Duo build the inner screen holds a phone column in a box. They all work. Paired’s daily question and Between’s chat are fine in a column. The two that lose the most to the box are Cupla, a calendar built for two people that would be at its best as two pages, and Honeydue, where two balances side by side is the obvious Duo layout. Those are the two worth re-checking first.

Otty on iPhone Duo: the calendar on one page, the check-in on the other

Otty is a period tracker built for couples, and version 1.0.40, released October 22, 2026, treats the open phone as two pages. On Today, the left page holds the hero, the cycle phase and the daily tip, and the right page holds the check-in and the playbook. On Calendar, the month is on the left and the patterns on the right, with the gutter on the fold so the hinge never cuts a day in half. Deck Night, the six question decks matched to her phase, spreads across the fold in two columns, so for the first time the deck faces both of you instead of one of you reading it out. If you want the questions without the app, our 20 questions for couples are sorted by the same four weeks.

Closed, it is the normal phone app on the outer screen. Two honest limits: Otty does not join Split View yet, and there are no hinge tricks. Both come after real Duo owners show up in the data. For how Otty handles the cycle itself next to Flo and Clue, the period tracker for iPhone Duo comparison is the sibling to this one.
